Overview

Long Island AVA covers most of the island east of New York City and includes the nested North Fork of Long Island and The Hamptons, Long Island AVAs. The eastern forks, Peconic Bay, Long Island Sound, and Atlantic Ocean create a strongly maritime setting unlike New York's inland wine regions.

Surrounding water moderates temperature, delaying spring warming, reducing extreme summer heat, and extending autumn ripening. Warm days, cool nights, humidity, coastal storms, and variable harvest weather all shape vineyard decisions.
