Prosecco DOC

Prosecco DOC extends across nine provinces in Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, making it broader than the historic hillside DOCGs around Conegliano, Valdobbiadene, and Asolo. Its geography includes extensive plains as well as rolling and foothill vineyards, linked by a shared production specification rather than one uniform terroir.

Glera is the principal grape, with limited proportions of other authorized varieties. Most wine becomes sparkling through a second fermentation in sealed pressure tanks, a method well suited to preserving floral and fruit aromas. Spumante, frizzante, still, and regulated rosé versions represent production types rather than separate geographic areas.

The regional climate ranges from Adriatic-influenced plains to cooler foothills. Rainfall, humidity, summer heat, and local airflow vary across the large zone. Many vineyards occupy alluvial clay-loam, gravel, or mixed sedimentary soils, although hillside sectors differ.

Prosecco DOC is one of Italy's largest protected wine categories. Its scale makes producer, province, grape, sweetness level, sparkling method, and vintage useful discovery links. This structure must distinguish Prosecco DOC from Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Asolo Prosecco DOCG. Those are separate, more tightly delimited origins, not quality tiers nested automatically within every Prosecco bottle. Clear neighboring-area links preserve both their geographic relationship and legal independence.
