Chambolle-Musigny AOC

Chambolle-Musigny AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Chambolle-Musigny AOC produces exclusively red Pinot Noir celebrated for floral perfume, fine texture, and elegance.

Overview

The village sits in a notch of the Côte de Nuits where the Combe Ambin opens onto east-facing limestone slopes. Thin calcareous soils and well-drained alluvial material favor Pinot Noir with red fruit, violet aromas, freshness, and a characteristically silky frame.

History

The commune joined its name to the celebrated Musigny vineyard in the nineteenth century, reflecting the long importance of its classified slopes.

Geography

Vineyards occupy slopes and an alluvial fan around the Combe Ambin, between Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeot.

Climate

A continental climate is moderated locally by altitude, slope exposure, and cool air moving through the combe.

Soils

Hard Jurassic limestone, marl, shallow stony soils, and alluvial gravel create marked differences over short distances.

Wine styles

The appellation is reserved for red Pinot Noir, typically fragrant, refined, and capable of graceful aging.

Notable features

Its reputation for delicacy and perfume contrasts with the firmer profile of several neighboring Côte de Nuits villages.

Producers

More public records will be added as coverage expands.
