Charmes-Chambertin AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru produces red Pinot Noir from gently sloping vineyards south of Chambertin in Gevrey-Chambertin.
Overview
Charmes-Chambertin extends across a broad, east-facing lower mid-slope beside Chambertin. Limestone-derived soils with meaningful clay content encourage generous Pinot Noir marked by ripe red and dark fruit, spice, round texture, and substantial aging capacity.
History
The site’s name is long established in Gevrey’s vineyard record; Grand Cru status was formalized in 1937 alongside the neighboring Chambertin appellations.
Geography
The appellation lies immediately south and downslope of Chambertin, facing east on a modest gradient above the village plain.

Continental weather and good morning exposure aid ripening, while elevation and calcareous drainage help maintain freshness.
