Clos de Tart AOC
Clos de Tart AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Clos de Tart Grand Cru is a walled, singly owned vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis producing powerful and perfumed red Pinot Noir.
Overview
The clos rises on an east-facing slope between Clos des Lambrays and Bonnes-Mares. Varying soil depth over limestone and marl creates Pinot Noir with ripe fruit, violet perfume, dense texture, firm youthful tannin, and considerable aging capacity.
History
Cistercian nuns of Tart founded the clos in 1141; its remarkably continuous ownership history preceded Grand Cru recognition in 1939.
Geography
The walled vineyard occupies an east- to southeast-facing slope around 250 meters at Morey-Saint-Denis’s southern edge.
Climate
A continental climate, protective walls, and favorable exposure foster ripeness while slope elevation preserves balance.
Soils
Scree-derived clay-limestone soils range roughly from shallow upper sections to much deeper lower deposits over limestone.
Wine styles
Only red Pinot Noir is produced, combining robustness, floral fragrance, concentration, and longevity.
Notable features
The entire historic clos is a monopole, making its ownership and physical enclosure unusually unified.
