Rioja
Rioja is a major Spanish wine region along the upper Ebro River, spanning parts of La Rioja, the Basque Country, and Navarre. Tempranillo-led reds, white and rosé wines, barrel maturation, and distinct conditions across Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental shape its identity.
Notable factRioja became Spain's first Denominación de Origen Calificada in 1991; aging terms and geographic indications describe separate dimensions of a wine.
