Overview
Ramandolo DOCG is one of Italy's smallest guaranteed denominations, occupying a natural amphitheater of steep, south-facing slopes in the commune of Nimis at the northern end of the Colli Orientali hills. The site's position against the sub-Alpine foothills creates a warm, sheltered microclimate that is critical for the late-harvest and passito production methods required by the designation.
Verduzzo Friulano is the only permitted grape. The variety accumulates sugar and develops concentrated flavors when left to hang into late autumn or when partially dried after harvest. The resulting wines range from lightly sweet to richly concentrated passito expressions with notes of honey, dried apricot, beeswax, and resin.
Production volumes are very small, and the denomination is one of Italy's least commercially visible DOCGs. Its significance lies in preserving a local sweet-wine tradition and in demonstrating what the Verduzzo Friulano grape can achieve in an ideal site.

Soils
Flysch-derived soils of marl and sandstone are present on the hillside slopes, consistent with the broader Colli Orientali geology. Soil depth varies with slope position, and drainage is steep. The rocky profiles limit yields naturally.
