Provence

Provence is a Mediterranean wine region of coastal plains, limestone massifs, inland valleys, and sunlit slopes. It is internationally identified with dry rosé, while its appellations also produce distinctive reds and whites from Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Rolle, and other southern grapes.

Overview

Provence extends across southeastern France between the Mediterranean coast and inland hills and mountains. Its vineyard landscape includes coastal basins, limestone ridges, broad valleys, elevated interior sites, and the mistral-influenced western sector.

The climate is broadly Mediterranean, with abundant sun, dry summers, episodic heavy rain, and cooling effects from sea, wind, or altitude. Côtes de Provence is the largest appellation, joined by Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, Coteaux Varois en Provence, Bandol, Cassis, Palette, and smaller protected areas.

Rosé provides the clearest regional identity, but structured Mourvèdre-led reds, aromatic Mediterranean whites, and local appellation styles remain important. This structure should use appellation, site, grape, and producer links to show diversity behind the broad Provence rosé category.
